Bring Your Bear 2012
Paddington urged schools and nurseries to take part in a 'Bring your Bear' event.
Paddington Bear encouraged primary schools, nurseries and children’s groups across the UK to register to take part in his annual Bring your Bear event during the summer to raise vital funds for his favourite children’s charity, Action Medical Research.
The Bring your Bear concept is simple and fun and this year’s event was extra special as Action Medical Research is celebrating its 60th anniversary. It’s easy to join in, just choose a day in May or June when the children bring their teddy bear, or a favourite soft toy, along with them for the day. Each child brings in a £2 donation with their bear to support vital research to help sick babies and children.

Many Bring your Bear participants organised a whole day of fun, such as reading Paddington stories and holding a teddy bears’ picnic where, of course, the children ate Paddington’s favourite – marmalade sandwiches! Children could also take part in a drawing competition with a chance to win a visit from Paddington Bear himself.
Every school, nursery or group that registered received a free fundraising kit, filled with all the resources needed to run a fun-filled Bring your Bear event, including ideas for extra activities and plenty of Paddington Bear stickers – a real favourite with the children. There were also activity sheets to download and use from the Bring your Bear website to link the event to lesson plans for either Key Stages One and Two or the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Oly Watts, National Events Manager at Action Medical Research, said: "Bring your Bear is a really fun event for children and a nice way for them to show they care. It’s always great to see them getting involved and every year we get fantastic feedback about what they’ve got up to. It's the charity’s 60th anniversary this year, so we hope children all over the UK will join in to make 2012 an extra special year and help us to fund even more life-changing research for some of the UK’s sickest babies and children."
